We are the Kahu Creative Universe and the heart behind Kahu Creative Studio.

Our life and mahi are deeply woven together — guided by wairua, whakapapa, and our lived connection to te taiao. Through our own journeys of healing and balance, we’ve learned that true wellbeing begins at home — in the way we live, listen, breathe, and create together.

From nurturing hauora to designing spaces, systems and kaupapa that uplift Papatūānuku and her people, our work supports whānau to return to harmony with the natural world — one season, one cycle, one generation at a time.

We walk this path for our tamariki, for our tūpuna, and for all who are ready to remember who they are.

Meet the Team

  • Chrissy Morehu

    Founder | Chief Executive Officer

    Chrissy Morehu is the founder of Kahu Creative Studio and a Whenua + Tangata Designer working at the intersection of people, place and intergenerational healing.

    This kaupapa emerged nearly seven years ago when she became hapū with her eldest daughter, Kahumātiti — a moment that reshaped her understanding of whenua, tangata, wai and intergenerational responsibility.

    Chrissy’s work sits at the intersection of people and place. She designs with whenua — not over it — recognising land, water and people as one interconnected living system. Her approach is grounded in lived experience, whakapapa, and formal training in landscape architecture, water management, river and wetland restoration, Indigenous design and Māori art, alongside te reo Māori.

    Through Kahu Creative Studio, Chrissy works alongside whānau, hapū and iwi to support whenua-led thinking, long-term visioning and design that restores balance between Papatūānuku and her people.

    She walks this path for her tamariki, her tūpuna, and future generations.

  • Nathan Rennie

    Co-Founder | Head of Hauora | Whānau & Community Tautoko

    Nathan is the pou of Hauora within the Kahu Creative Universe and a steady foundation behind the kaupapa.

    As co-founder, Nathan stepped away from his career in Strength & Conditioning to fully tautoko the kaupapa — ensuring the whānau foundation is strong, stable and supported so the work can be carried with care.

    Nathan leads the Hauora arm through movement, discipline and presence, supporting wellbeing at home and within community spaces. He currently coaches waka ama at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Whakarewa i te Reo ki Tūwharetoa and is actively involved in kura kaupapa and kōhanga reo life alongside his whānau.

    Behind the scenes, Nathan supports filming, content creation, logistics and day-to-day operations — stepping in wherever needed. He also brings his passion for golf as a pathway for focus, balance and hauora, which he is beginning to share through YouTube as part of his wider wellbeing mahi.

  • Louis Hutchison

    Operations & Project Management | Whenua & Community Liaison

    Louis Hutchison supports the operational and delivery backbone of Kahu Creative Studio.

    Working across operations and project management, Louis helps guide kaupapa from vision into action — coordinating timelines, communication and logistics to ensure projects remain aligned, organised and responsive.

    Louis has a genuine passion for project management and brings calm structure, reliability and care to complex kaupapa. His role strengthens the bridge between strategy, design and implementation, helping ensure mahi is carried through with integrity, clarity and follow-through across whenua and community contexts.
